Chan Master Miaopu, with the style name of Xing Kong, is a native of Hanzhou. Born in the fourth year of Xining reign of Emperor Shenzong of Song Dynasty, and died in the twelfth year of Shaoxing reign of Emperor Gaozong of Southern Song Dynasty (1071-1142). Chan Master Xing Kong had a straightforward personality and was not overly pretentious. He never used false language when contacting with friends, and even corrected the other person's mistakes in person. Everyone was in awe and regarded as a straight friend. He often traveled through famous mountains and jungles with a bamboo stick and ragged clothes, or stayed in the millennium temples, or lodged in an ancient house that has been uninhabited for a long time. Later, he visited the Huanglong Shan Master Si Xin and deeply understood the main idea. From then on, he no longer traveled around the world and insisted on staying under Si Xin.
In the early years of Jianyan, Xu Ming rebelled, killing and plundering to cause immense suffering for the people, and bandits plundered Wuzhen along the way. Chan Master Xing Kong happened to have traveled here and saw the disaster victims everywhere and the floating corpses. Therefore, he alone went to the bandit camp on his stick. The bandit soldiers suspected that Shan Master was a spy and waved a knife to kill him. Chan master Xing Kong laughed up and said, "I am a Chan master. I just want to go to the Miyin Temple, how am I like you thief mean creatures? My body is originally a false combination of five aggregates, nothing meaningful. If you want to cut my head, you can do it, why are you so furious? However, I have one request, please give me a bowl of rice, and then I can set off after eating! "
The minions saw that Chan Master Xing Kong was calm and fearless, so they had to give him a bowl of rice as promised. The Chan Master enjoyed the delicious taste as usual, and then said to the bandits, "Since you want to kill me, who will write a memorial for me to pass on to later generations?" The bandits looked at each other in amazement. Chan Master Xing Kong looked at the stunned group of bandits and said to himself, "Since no one can write for me, then I'll write it myself!" Then he picked up his bald pen and quickly wrote on the mottled broken wall. The bandits competed to watch Chan Master's inscription, Chan Master threw down his pen and suddenly shouted loudly: "Since the fate has been disrupted, I am a happy and fierce man. Now that it is the time, I would like to ask for cutting me. Hurry up! Hurry up!" The bandits were stunned by Chan Master Xing Kong’s indomitable attitude and majestic demeanor. They quickly released Chan Master and fled from Wuzhen, saving the lives of the people in the town.
From then on, Chan Master's reputation spread far and wide, and the Taoist and admirers were countless, but Chan Master still persisted in his free life.
