The story of braised mutton
Wuzhen's Braised mutton enjoys a high reputation in the surrounding areas. There is also a legend about Braised mutton: During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, there was a Hu mutton shop in Wuzhen. The cooking technique was very poor. The mutton was so fishy that the diners could not swallow it. The boss thought it was the guy's reason and wanted to dismiss him. The next morning, two guys angrily left the store. Before leaving, they saw a basket of radishes and sugarcane shoots at the door. They then poured these things into the pot where the mutton was cooked to vent their anger. The owner of the mutton shop was a very stingy person, and afraid that the guys would steal things when they left, so they came early to check. When he came to the kitchen, he smelled a very fragrant mutton flavor, opened the pot to taste, and found that the mutton was fat but not greasy, fresh, crispy and soft, it was very delicious. The boss thought it was because the guys thought the salary was low, so they didn't show the cooking technique. He immediately chased the guys and told him not to leave. He said: "I know I treated you unfairly before, and I will increase your salary in the future. You need to use today's cooking method to cook mutton”. Afterwards, when cooking mutton in Wuzhen, radishes, sugarcane shoots, red dates, and so on were definitely added, and from then on, Wuzhen mutton gained fame.
