Volunteers

In 2007, Wuzhen Tourism Co., Ltd. issued "Elderly Activity Cards" to the elderly residents of Wuzhen. This group of elderly people went to the scenic area for activities on the 15th and 30th of each month. During the activities, they often encountered tourists to inquire and ask for directions. Over time, the elderly began to think about whether they could set up a dedicated point to serve tourists and create a volunteer organization for Wuzhen Scenic Area.

In early 2008, representatives of the elderly, Feng Peixiang, Shen Xianqing, and others mentioned this idea to Chen Xianghong, the president of Wuzhen Tourism Co., Ltd. The president supported the idea very mush and immediately asked the scenic area management company to provide specific assistance. The company carefully selected some newly retired middle-aged and elderly people with good moral character, high quality, and good physical health from a large number of applicants. In the summer of 2011, the first volunteer home was officially unveiled at the western end of West Gage Scenic Spot. On the first day of the Chinese New Year in 2012, the second volunteer home located at the eastern end of West Gage Scenic Spot also opened.

It has been 10 years since the birth of the Volunteer Home in Wuzhen Scenic Area. After 10 years of continuous development and growth, more than 180 people have joined the volunteer organization in the scenic area. The volunteers include retired cadres, teachers, medical personnel, private entrepreneurs, and retired workers from enterprises. They have established music, writing, patrol and duty groups, and formulated summary and reporting systems. On the 30th of each month, a group leader meeting is held to discuss the activity situation for a month, and a meeting of all volunteers is held every quarter to summarize the activities of each quarter and propose new requirements. They establish their own organizational structure and divide them into groups and shifts. Except for bad weather such as snow and typhoon, employees of the company replaced them, and elderly people came to provide services on duty for almost 365 days.

Rest, consultation, tea, charging, drying clothes, storing things, borrowing umbrellas, exporting photos... This group of elderly residents in Wuzhen has listed more than 10 free services for tourists. The virtues of civilization, enthusiasm, and simplicity of volunteers in Wuzhen have deeply infected tourists. While thanking them, they all say that the Volunteer Home is also a tourist home.

In the spare time, tourists will leave some notes. In recent years, messages of praise have left on the dozens of opinion books. Flipping through the tourists' messages page by page is like entering a tourist's journey. The simple handwritings are full of friendship, and each book is the pride of Volunteer Home.

In addition, volunteers can also timely grasp the information of tourists and their opinions and suggestions on the scenic area during their interaction with tourists, and provide timely feedback to the scenic area for reference in improving management work. The Volunteer Home in Wuzhen Scenic Area has become a special "scenic spot" in the scenic area, and a beautiful scenery line so that tourists consider Wuzhen beautiful and Wuzhen people more beautiful.
